Gadda Set

A mattress — often called a "gadda set" in Pakistan — is the single most important safety-related purchase in a baby's sleep setup, since it's the surface a baby spends the majority of their early life on. Zubaida's mattress set collection focuses on firm, well-fitted mattresses designed specifically for infant safety, alongside coordinated sets that sometimes include a pillow, bolster, or small cushion for nursery styling.

The most important safety principle for infant mattresses is firmness. Unlike adult mattresses, which prioritise plush comfort, infant mattresses are intentionally firm — this reduces the risk of a baby's face sinking into the surface, which is a significant suffocation risk factor identified in infant sleep safety research. A mattress that feels "too hard" to an adult hand is often exactly right for a baby, and softness should never be the deciding factor when choosing one.

What to check before buying a mattress set:

- Exact size match to your cot, cuddle bed, or Moses basket frame — a mattress that's too small can create dangerous gaps at the edges

- Firmness — press-test the mattress; it should not deeply indent or feel plush

- A breathable, wipeable cover for easy cleaning after the frequent leaks and spit-up common in infancy

- Whether the set includes additional pieces (a small pillow or bolster), and confirming those extras are only used under supervision, not during unsupervised infant sleep

A frequently asked question is how often a baby's mattress needs replacing. Unlike adult mattresses, a well-maintained infant mattress with a wipeable cover can typically be used across multiple stages (Moses basket to cot, and even for a second child) as long as it remains firm, free of sagging, and the cover is intact — replace it if it becomes indented, torn, or no longer provides a firm surface.

Mattress sets pair directly with our cot bedding collection for a complete bedding setup, and with Moses baskets or cuddle beds for earlier newborn sleep spaces. For the full nursery setup, start from our Baby Nursery Furniture hub.
